IELTS

IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is a globally recognized English language proficiency test. It is widely accepted by educational institutions, employers, and immigration authorities in English-speaking countries.

IELTS offers two versions:

Academic, for those seeking higher education or professional registration.

General Training, for immigration or work purposes.

The IELTS assesses four language skills

Listening

Reading

Writing

Speaking

The test is scored on a band scale from 1 to 9, with 9 being the highest proficiency level. IELTS is known for its fairness, reliability, and emphasis on real-life communication skills.

IELTS Structure:

Listening:

The listening section consists of four recorded monologues and conversations. Test-takers answer a series of questions based on what they hear.
40 Questions in approximately 30 minutes.

Reading:

The reading section includes three passages of increasing difficulty. Test-takers must answer a variety of questions to demonstrate comprehension.
40 Questions in 60 minutes.

Writing:

The writing section consists of two tasks. Task 1 requires test-takers to analyze and describe visual information, while Task 2 is an essay on a given topic.
2 Tasks in 60 minutes.

Speaking:

The speaking section assesses the test-takers’ spoken English. It is conducted as a face-to-face interview and consists of three parts: an introduction, a short speech, and a discussion.
3 parts in 11-14 minutes.

IELTS – Testing options:

In India, the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) exam is conducted in two modes: Paper-based (PBT) and Computer-delivered (CBT).

Paper-based Test (PBT): In the PBT mode, the listening, reading, and writing sections of the IELTS are conducted on paper. Test-takers receive a physical question booklet and answer sheet for these sections. The listening section is played through speakers, and test-takers mark their answers on the answer sheet. The reading and writing sections are also completed on the question booklet.

Computer-delivered Test (CBT): The CBT mode of the IELTS is conducted on a computer. Test-takers use a computer to complete the listening, reading, and writing sections. The listening section is played through headphones, and test-takers type their answers directly on the computer. The reading and writing sections are completed using the provided software on the computer.

It's important to note that the speaking section of the IELTS is conducted as a face-to-face interview with an examiner, regardless of whether the test is paper-based or computer-delivered.
